Music Hawaiian style

Thursday is Hula at church. The big girls (R & H) were over for the day and brought their hula stuff--the Hawaiian Princess loves music and she loves it Hawaiian style!! The first picture she is holding an ipu (EE-poo). It is a hollowed out gourd and you hit it on the bottom or the sides to make sounds. In the other picture, the Hawaiian Princess is holding one of two puili sticks (poo-EE-lee). They are a set rhythm sticks. The bigger girls at church use one or both of these instruments in several of their hulas.

The Racing Princess is participating in hula this session. Finally, she can pay attention and focus on her Kumu (coo-moo: Hawaiian for teacher) instead of playing with the other little girls. And she is getting better each week. Hopefully she will be able to "perform" at our church's welcome home ceremony for Daddy and the other soldiers returning from deployment next month!!! When Grandma H comes next month, she can do hula lessons with the Racing Princess :)
