who will be 5 in 13 days, is quite the hot topic these days. The term "real" comes up a lot lately with the Racing Princess.
When are we going to our real church?
aka PIBC
When are we going to our real home?
aka the one that we lived in in Hawaii
When can I play with my real friends?
aka Sarah W., Sarah J., Matthew W., big Matthew, Rachael, Heather, Serene, Gabby, Abigail, Alexis, etc.
When can I go to my real Cubbies?
aka again the one at PIBC with Uncle Del and Auntie Tracy and Nate, Arlene and Dianne
So it seems to me that reality to the Racing Princess refers to what she knows--as it is for most of us--but in her case it is distinctly tangible since we are going to a "real" church, hopefully we will be in our new "real" home by the end of the month, she will make new "real" friends, and she just went to a new "real" Cubbies program last night and had a blast.
It's so hard to convince little ones that new is real and not necessarily bad, just different. Course, in the midst of an elongated move, it's kinda hard to convince myself that this isn't bad--just new and different and it will be okay (even though my heart cries out for the "old" and "real" that we left in Hawaii).
About Cubbies last night--the Racing Princess loved it. At the end of the evening, she wanted to go again RIGHT NOW. So that was encouraging. The AWANA program at this church is the biggest I have ever been associated with. They won't meet next week as the church does an Easter outreach called Resurrection Way that begins next Wednesday--so we will go back the following week.

Three cheers for the beginnings of new roots. This process is so hard. And the thing is, that I'm not sure it ever really ends. Even when roots are firmly established in the new place, parts of the heart still long for the last home.
