Signs, Signs, Everywhere Signs…

but what in the world do they mean??

autobahn

This is the sign for the Autobahn—the German interstate system. This sign indicates you are entering the autobahn.

autobahn exitThis sign means exit—more specifically a driving exit. After you exit, you will see…

autobahn END

which indicates you have left the autobahn system.

Another popular sign on the autobahn is …

end of restrictions

which indicates end of restrictions—Uncle D. refers this sign as “game on.” This is the time on the autobahn when there is no speed limit. The advised speed limit during this time is 130 kph, although those Audi station wagons sure are good at blowing our doors off!!

Another sign commonly seen especially near larger towns and cities is…

Stau--traffic jam

Stau—or traffic jam

This sign warns of potential places for traffic jams. And traffic jams can seemingly appear out of nowhere. You can be traveling at “game on” speed and next thing you know you need to slam on those breaks as traffic ahead of you is at a snail’s pace or worse, a standstill.

Look for part two of Signs, Signs, Everywhere Signs…coming soon
