This great traveling exhibit is currently at the Omaha Children’s Museum. Our girls had a blast.
First, we learned how the heart and different muscles work as the girls ran, rowed and moved a wheelchair in “Rosita’s Locomotion”. The Racing Princess loved doing the boogie with Grover in “Grover’s Dance Party”, a groovy little disco.
Then we explored the body’s insides. In “Digestion with Oscar,” we saw what happens to food when you eat it. First, it is chewed by the mouth, then broken down by acids in the stomach and finally, pooped out in the end (that was really quite gross!). “Count’s Organ Organ” entertained us musically with songs about the different organs and their job. None of us liked the “Oscar’s Sneeze Machine” when we got sneezed on!!! We got to pull a lever and if it landed on germ or pepper—the machine sneezed on us!!
There was a great section about identifying different body parts, what they do and how we use them. The girls really liked making shadow puppets with their hands. They were also fascinated by the Braille. They already know some sign language, so they were excited to see examples of that. There was also a fun game show about parts of the head called “Use Your Head” with everybody’s favorite game show host Guy Smiley!!
In Hooper’s Store, we learned about how different healthy meals are good for your body. “Baby Bear’s Mini Mart” had lots of colorful, healthy food for the girls to “shop” for. In “Rub-A-Dub Tub”, Ernie and Rubber Ducky showed us how fun staying clean can be.
What a fun way to have health/science class and not even crack a book :)
